Another name has entered the fray to purchase the Washington Commanders from Daniel Snyder.
Steve Apostolopoulos, a Canadian billionaire, is the newest potential bidder for the Washington franchise who has toured the team facility, according to a report from ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Adam Schefter.
According to the ESPN report, Apostolopoulos had talks about purchasing the NBA's Charlotte Hornets after Michael Jordan had reportedly expressed interest in selling the franchise, but the Canadian businessman is now "focused on the opportunity to purchase the Commanders."
Apostolopoulos founded the private equity venture fund, Six Ventures Inc. He was born in Toronto and attended Harvard, per ESPN. Estimations of his family's net worth have been previously reported as $3.9 billion.
The report of Apostolopoulos entering the bidding comes after Magic Johnson reportedly joined the group that includes Josh Harris, the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils owner, and Mitchell Rales.
Tillman Fertitta, the owner of the Houston Rockets, has also bid for the team. Jeff Bezos has long been linked with making a bid, but indications are that the Amazon founder has not formally bid for Snyder's team.
The NFL's annual meetings begin in Arizona on Monday and the scuttlebutt around league circles indicates an announcement could be made around those meetings. And there is the possibility that at those meetings, the owners could take action to compel Snyder to sell.
