The Washington Football Team has agreed to acquire guard Ereck Flowers in a trade with the Miami Dolphins, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
The deal involves a swap of 2021 seventh-round draft picks with Washington sending the 244th overall selection to Miami in exchange for flowers and the 258th overall pick.
The 27-year-old former first-round pick returns to Washington where he played the 2019 season, before signing a three-year, $30 million free agent contract with the Dolphins last March.
In order to make the deal, Flowers restructured his contract so Miami will pay $6 million in a signing bonus and Washington will pay a $3 million base salary, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Flowers is under contract through 2022, but that deal is only guaranteed through 2021.
The ninth overall pick in 2015, Flowers flamed out as a left tackle prospect for the Giants but revitalized his career in Washington, where he was converted into a guard under then-offensive line coach Bill Callahan. He started all 16 games for Washington that season before departing via free agency.
Flowers appeared in 14 games for Miami last season, starting all 14 at guard.
