When it comes to holidays, especially in the summer, the urge is to always have a festive dessert. Why? Who knows, but its the rule. That where the inspiration came to take this Red Velvet Cake recipe from Grandma George's recipe box and jazz it up for the 4th. The cake recipe is so simple, you literally through all the ingredients in and mix. You can even take a short cut and use store bought frosting, but I'll give you the homemade one too. Grab some blue sprinkles and your dessert is 4th of July ready!

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup margarine
2 eggs
2 tbsp cocoa
1 cup buttermilk
2 one ounce bottles of red food coloring
2 1/3 cup flour (I used cake flour)
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vinegar

Frosting -
1 cup milk
3 tbsp flour
1 cup sugar
1 cup margarine
2 tsp vanilla

Instructions
For the cake:
Mix together and beat well. Fill 3 - 9 inch pans evenly. Bake at 350 for 25-25 minutes. Let cool
For the frosting:
Mix flour and milk, cook until thick, and then cover and let sit until cool. Beat sugar, and margarine, together until fluffy. Add vanilla, mix the sugar mixture to the white sauce a little at a time, and beat until fluffy.

Stack cake and add frosting between layers, and top and outside of the cake. Sprinkle with blue sprinkles and serve!
