It's another recipe out of Grandma George's cookbook, this one was submitted by Mary Zappone. I would classify this as a softer calzone or at least a shortcut to a calzone. It's super easy and requires very little prep work. I consider this a canvas recipe, once you make it you can switch up what you put inside and really cater it to your tastes!
Ingredients
1 loaf frozen bread (I used the Pillsbury dough sheets)
1 lb Italian sausage (sweet, mild or hot)
1/2 lb Mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup Ramano grated cheese
1 pkg frozen spinach (optional)
1/4 tsp oregano
Instructions
On a floured bored (or un-floured if using dough sheets), roll out bread dough, which has been thawed, in to and oblong shape, about 10x15. In a pan cook your sausage up until crumbly. Remove sausage and keep the drippings. Dribble the drippings over the dough and then spread the sausage evenly over the dough. Add the shredded Mozarella, grated Romano, and oregano. Fold and roll like a jellyroll.
Place in a lightly oiled pan and brush beaten egg yolks over the top. Bake in the oven at 350 for about 45 minutes but start checking around the 30 minute mark. ENJOY!
