This week on Spotlight on Maryland, Gina Crash spoke with Philanthropy Tank Baltimore Executive Director Joann Levy and Samantha Crosby McGrath from Allegis Group, a Founding Partner of Philanthropy Tank Baltimore. Philanthropy Tank started in 2015 in Palm Beach County, Florida and announced its expansion to Baltimore in April 2020. The program uses a Shark Tank-like model to drive student-run community projects.
The team works with Baltimore City middle and high school students who have ideas and drive to make change in their communities. Matched with financial support from area business leaders, these changemakers put their creative solutions into action to address issues facing their communities like homelessness, obesity, food insecurity, financial literacy and more.

The 1st annual Student Finals Event took place virtually on November 19, 2020. The students came up with really creative ideas that respond to a wide range of social issues facing their own communites like Memory Creation that will use the adopt-a-lot process to build a memorial garden in Baltimore's Upton neighborhood where youth can honor family members who have been lost to gun violence.
