This week on Spotlight On Maryland, Gina Crash was joined in studio by Marina Thompson, Area Director, Maryland, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, (AFSP), and Andy Kobus, Board Member, HER Resiliency Center and Team Captain of Team Natasha-HER Resiliency at AFSP's Out of the Darkness Baltimore Walk on Saturday, September 19th at Harbor Point. Andy is walking and fundraising in honor of Natasha Guynes, Founder of HER Resiliency Center, who we lost to mental health just a couple of months ago and we had as a guest with Andy in our studios in December. Click here to donate to his team. To find out more about the Baltimore Walk, visit afsp.org/Baltimore.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, (AFSP), is a voluntary health organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education and advocacy to take action against the leading cause of death. Since 1987, AFSP has mobilized and connected tens of thousands of people who have lost someone to suicide. AFSP is a national organization with chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington, DC. Connection is our greatest strength in the fight against suicide. AFSP was founded by a small group of families impacted by suicide and scientists eager to learn more about how lives can be saved.

Marina and Andy also talked about Suicide Prevention in Construction and why it matters. The construction industry faces one of the highest suicide rates of any profession. AFSP's Construction Hike for Hope events send a clear message: mental health matters in the construction industry, and suicide should no longer exist in the shadows. AFSP Maryland will be hosting this event for the second time in May 2027 at Oregon Ridge in Cockeysville.
