This week on Spotlight On Maryland, Gina Crash was joined in studio by Candace Allmond, Deputy Director, and Kristina Harlee, Communications & Marketing Manager at Art With a Heart, (AWAH), to talk about the organization, its impact in Baltimore and its new retail store- HeARTwares on the Avenue in Hampden at 1104 W. 36th Street. All of the artwork for sale at AWAH's social enterprise store HeARTwares is created by Art With a Heart students in Art With a Heart's workforce development program, HeARTworks, apprentices from that program and community volunteers.
Art With a Heart's mission is to enhance the lives of people in need through visual arts. Founded in 2000, the Baltimore-based nonprofit uses visual art for positive civic and economic change in its community programming, workforce development, community art, service learning and leadership development initiatives.
AWAH's workforce development program HeARTworks provides a collaborative space for young people, ages 14-24, to experience a structured work environment while building job readiness and life skills. Participants create marketable art to sell in Art With a Heart's social enterprise and retail store HeARTwares.
