This week on Spotlight On Maryland, Gina Crash was joined in studio by Martin Kerrigan, 25-Year Brain Injury Survivor, and Bryan Pugh, Executive Director of the Brain Injury Association of Maryland, (BIAMD), to talk about their 18th annual Scarecrow Classic 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run, Sunday, October 29th at Piney Run Park in Sykesville from 8 to 11am. The event raises funds to help people of all ages with brain injuries. Event proceeds directly support the Maryland Brain Injury Connection Center-BIAMD's toll-free hotline for brain injury survivors, their families and healthcare providers. The toll-free # is 1-800-221-6443.
BIAMD brings health, hope, and healing to thousands of Marylanders living with brain injury, their families and the professionals who serve them. Martin told his amazing story of being a successful D1 runner and hit by a car while crossing the street in 1998. Martin recovered and went on to receive a Masters in Special Education and a Specialty Certificate in Brain Injury. A long-time BIAMD volunteer, he has been Chairperson of the TBI Advisory Board since 2007. He's been involved in advocacy work on behalf of people with brain injuries and pushing for brain injury screenings for kids. And he runs each year in their Scarecrow Classic!
Since 2011, BIAMD's Executive Director Bryan Pugh's work has focused on providing information and assistance to individuals, families, educators, healthcare providers and policy makers regarding brain injury prevention, treatment, research, and supports.
