This week on Spotlight On Maryland, Gina Crash was joined in studio by Traci Kodeck, CEO of HealthCare Access Maryland, (HCAM), to talk about how they serve communities across the state and here in Baltimore City through health insurance programs like Connector, to talk about their work with justice-involved individuals returning to the community following incarceration, their Safe Sleep program that helps families as they welcome a new baby, and their new initiative aimed at preventing the risk of diabetes.
HealthCare Access Maryland is a non-profit organization with a mission to make Maryland healthier. They do this by connecting Maryland residents to health insurance coverage and care coordination. HCAM is based in Baltimore, but their services reach community members across the state. Last year they served over 40,000 individuals. Over the last 27 years, HCAM has developed specialized programs to support the unique needs of many populations including providing care coordination to pregnant and post-partum women, medically managing all children and youth in the Baltimore City foster care system, connecting individuals with mental health and substance use conditions and connecting justice-individuals returning to the community following incarceration.
HCAM's Connector Program was established with the passage of the Affordable Care Act. Their navigators help Marylanders learn about plan options, navigate the application process and ensure they receive any financial assistance they qualify for.
Open enrollment is going on now. Marylanders have until January 15th to enroll. If you are currently uninsured or need to renew your coverage for the New Year, please call 410-500-4710 to make an appointment with a navigator.
HCAM is hiring for multiple positions currently. Job openings are posted on their website hcamaryland.org and on their LinkedIn page. You can also follow them on Facebook, Instagram and X.
