This week on Spotlight on Maryland, Gina Crash was joined in studio by Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim, a physician/scientist and Assistant Professor of Transplant Nephrology at the University of Maryland Baltimore and Advisory Board Member of the National Kidney Foundation Serving Maryland and Delaware, (NKFMDDE), and Larry Jones, Patient Advocate for NKFMDDE and a kidney transplant recipient. Larry told his personal story of receiving a kidney from his son. Their transplant surgery occurred on May 4, 2023 and it was an absolute success!
Dr. Ibrahim talked about the NKFMDDE's mission that is revolutionizing the fight to save lives by eliminating preventable kidney disease, accelerating innovation for the dignity of the patient experience, and dismantling structural inequities in kidney care, dialysis and transplantation. Their vision is to enhance the lives of everyone with, at risk or affected by kidney disease.
NKFMDDE supports medical research, conducts public education, provides free health screenings, and offers emergency financial assistance to low-income dialysis and transplant patients to help with daily living needs like paying for transportation to dialysis treatments, electricity, groceries, medical equipment and more.
Both Larry and Dr. Ibrahim talked about the NFKMDDE's 22nd annual Maryland Kidney Walk Sunday, October 6th at UMBC. Event proceeds directly support NKFMDDE's local patient services, education and research efforts. For online registration, visit kidneywalk.org/maryland.
