Many people don’t realize they are at risk for kidney disease; it’s often overlooked, but 1 in 3 adults in the U.S. are at risk. Kidney disease is the 10th leading cause of death nationwide.

Anyone can get chronic kidney disease at any age. However, some people are more likely than others to develop kidney disease. Risk factors include diabetes, high blood pressure, a family history of kidney failure and older age. Chronic kidney disease is also more common in African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asians, Pacific Islanders, and American Indians. Early detection can help you successfully treat kidney disease. It is never too late to take care of your health. Getting tested for kidney disease is quick and easy. Learn about your kidneys to stay healthy and be there for your family and community.

Baltimore’s premier food and beverage event is back as an in-person event! The National Kidney Foundation Serving Maryland and Delaware will host its signature Santé: Giving Back For Kidney Disease fundraiser, Wednesday, May 10th from 6-9pm at the Baltimore Museum of Industry in Downtown Baltimore. This business casual evening with tastings from a variety of restaurants and caterers, paired with enticing beverages including Boordy Vineyards, Farmacy Brewing, Log Cabin Chocolates, Mamma Mish’s Homemade Dishes, Natasha’s Just Brittle, Sagamore, Sandy Bottom Sparkling Rum Cocktail, and managing caterer, Zeffert and Gold Catering. Adding to the fun will be an awards competition, photo booth, raffles and silent auction featuring sports memorabilia, dining, entertainment, local art, spa, health and fitness and vacation packages.

Santé proceeds will support NKFMDDE’s local patient emergency assistance program, providing essentials such as medication, food, transportation to dialysis, housing costs and utilities. Dollars raised also help fund vital research from the top nephrologists at Johns Hopkins Medicine and University of Maryland Medical Center. Admission to Santé is $125/person.
