This week on Spotlight On Maryland, Gina Crash was joined in studio by Stacy Nagel, Director of Operations, Dave Nagel, Board President and Executive Deputy Director Amy Matheny from Soup for the Soul Dundalk, a nonprofit community organization addressing food insecurity in the Dundalk area by providing a hot or cold sit down meal and food pantry supplies on Monday afternoons from 2:30pm-5:00pm at the Dundalk Church of God located at 6 Yorkway, (alley entrance). Once a month they partner with the Maryland Food Bank that provides fresh vegetables and fruits to give away.
Soup for the Soul was established in 1982 by the Haines family, operating as Rita's Supper Table in the basement of the St. Rita School Gymnasium. In 2015, the organization moved from its original location to the Dundalk United Methodist Church. When that congregation sold the building, they obtained their current location at 6 Yorkway in Dundalk.
In addition to their primary mission of assisting the food insecure population, they provide other services like their Easter Giveaway, Memorial Day and Labor Day cookouts, Back to School Supply Celebrations including haircutting, a Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway and a Christmas Celebration. All of their efforts require volunteers, product contributors and financial contributions. For more information about how you can support their efforts, visit soupforthesouldundalk.org.
