This week on Spotlight On Maryland, Gina Crash was joined in studio by Anne O'Brien, Co-Founder of The Tyanna Foundation and Toni Robinson, Breast Cancer Survivor & Tyanna Foundation Volunteer, to talk about the Tyanna Foundation's inspiration, mission and upcoming events like BreastFest Dewey Beach coming up Sunday, July 27th from 2-6pm at The Starboard.
The Tyanna Foundation honors a mother's life, love, and living legacy. Tyanna Barre O'Brien lost her battle with breast cancer in 1990 at the young age of 48. Her legacy continues today through the work of her daughters Anne, Bridget, Megan, Sara & Kate O'Brien, the founders of BreastFest. It is their commitment to awareness and prevention that inspires and leads the work of the Tyanna Foundation.
Since it's inception in 1999 in Athens, GA, the Foundation has worked tirelessly increasing awareness and generating money for breast cancer research, services, education, treatment and patient care for local breast cancer patients and survivors. As Tyanna's daughters settled in different places, the organization serves local organizations in not only Athens, GA but also in Southern New Jersey and locally here in Baltimore.
During the past 25 years, the Foundation has raised and donated over $1.7 million to Mercy Medical Center's Women's Center. The money they have raised and continue to raise through their party with a purpose style events like BreastFest provides funds for services, education, equipment and treatment and for many other things for patients and survivors who can't afford what they need during treatment.
