This week on Spotlight On Maryland, Gina Crash was joined in studio by Joana Bragg, Campaign Director, Maryland "Of the Year" Campaigns, Lauren Monks, Blood Cancer Survivor & Campaign Development Manager, Visionaries of the Year Maryland, and Shannon Jenkins, Advocate & Visionary of the Year Candidate, Blood Cancer United, to talk about their mission, rebrand, impact, (especially their impact on survivor Lauren Monks), and their Visionaries of the Year, 10-week fundraising competition for community leaders. The campaign kicked off March 25th and winners will be announced at the Baltimore Pendry on June 6th. Visionaries of the Year candidates and their teams drive progress toward Blood Cancer United's lifesaving mission and are helping patients live longer, better lives.
Blood Cancer United, (formerly the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society), is the largest global nonprofit focused on blood cancer patient support, research and advocacy. The Blood Cancer United mission is to cure blood cancer and improve the quality of life for all patients and their families. Their new name reflects its commitment to all 100+ types of blood cancer. Their impact in Maryland since 2020 is: over 5,000 patients served, invested over $5M in research at Johns Hopkins & University of Maryland Medical Center and awarded $1.7M in co-pay assistance.
