This week on Spotlight On Maryland, Gina Crash was joined in studio by Donald Eaddy, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Civic Engagement at the Y in Central Maryland to talk about their Thanksgiving morning tradition, the Y Turkey Trot Charity 5K!
The Y Turkey Trot Charity 5K will take place at six locations across Central Maryland, (Arnold, Baltimore City, Bel Air, Ellicott City, Towson and Westminster), at 8:30am Thanksgiving morning on Thursday, November 28th. There's also a virtual option available. Individuals can register at ymdturkeytrot.org. There are many ways for people to engage in the weeks leading up to the day of the 5K like volunteering at packet pick-up or helping day-of with registration, set-up, etc.
Turkey Trot proceeds support the Y Open Doors fund enabling access and inclusion in healthy Y programs for all. Proceeds help send children to camp, give seniors the chance to connect, provide meaningful mentoring opportunities to young people, distribute food to those who need it most in the community and provide families with fun, engaging fitness opportunities.
Community members are also encouraged to donate to the Y Turkey Trot Food Drive to help stock the Y's food pantries by donating non-perishable and canned food for families and individuals who are food insecure. Goods can be donated at Y Family Centers from November 1st-November 28th. People can also donate to the Y Turkey Trot Charity 5K at ymdturkeytrot.org or by texting TROT24 to 53-555. You can follow the Y Turkey Trot Charity 5K on Facebook and Instagram. For more information about the Y in Central Maryland, visit ymaryland.org.
