Prosecutors and lawyers for Alex Murdaugh were back in court, Friday. The hearing was to dispute evidence prior to his retrial for the 2021 murders of his wife and younger son, Paul.
The new trial is scheduled to begin in April of 2027. The South Carolina Supreme Court overturned his convictions earlier this year, saying Colleton County court clerk Becky Hill influenced jurors to find him guilty. Hill ended up being criminally charged for her actions related to that trial.
Friday's arguments focused on DNA testing and whether authorities must share ballistics evidence. Defense lawyers also want to know if a grand jury is investigating a police officer friend of Murdaugh as a possible accomplice?
