A suspect is accused of killing his own cousin, after a weekend shooting in the Upstate. The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of I-85 in Spartanburg County, around 5PM Friday. Three people were said to be in a vehicle together when one of them shot another.
The suspect was identified as 20 year old, Rodney Allister Smith Jr. He was later taken into custody following a search after he initially fled the scene. Officials say he shot his cousin, 29 year old Dani Smith of Hendersonville. She later died after being taken to a local hospital.
Rodney Smith is charged with murder and a weapons violation. He has since been denied bond and is being held in Spartanburg County.
