A suspect is in custody and a Police Chief is recovering after a shooting in the Midlands, Monday night. Officials say, Springfield Police Chief Adam Evans was shot in the line of duty.
Springfield is a small town in Orangeburg County and Evans was called into assist with an arrest in nearby Barnwell County. As we previously reported, SLED issued a Blue Alert, after they say Evans was shot by the suspect 37 year old, Lacey Nicole Cushman.
A Blue Alert is issued when a suspect is at large after hurting an officer. Cushman was taken into custody just before midnight. She's being held in Barnwell County. Earlier today, officials said that Evans was back home and in stable condition.
There's been no details released on what led to the shooting and the nature of the original call, as of the time of this report.
