Oconee Co. man avoids prison time on child sex crime charges

Courtney Alexander Walker Of Walhalla

Oconee County Jail

An Oconee County man will avoid prison time after getting a plea agreement on child sex crime charges. In 2024, the West Union Police Department arrested then 39 year old, Courtney Walker on charges of criminal sexual conduct with a minor, sexual exploitation of a minor with a minor and disseminating obscene material to a minor.

Walker was arrested after investigators say, he had sex with a 15 year old girl at the teenager's workplace. West Union Police Chief Ben Haley said Walker admitted to everything when questioned following his arrest. Walker was in court on those charges last week and received a plea deal.

In that deal, the criminal sexual conduct with a minor was lessened to 1st degree assault and the sexual exploitation of a minor charged was dropped. Walker entered guilty pleas to 1st degree assault and disseminating obscene material to a minor.

Sources close to the situation tell me, that members of a local Church in Walhalla were in the courtroom to support Walker and a leader from that Church wrote a letter to the judge on Walker's behalf.

Walker has been sentenced to two years of house arrest with 5 years of probation to follow.
