One of the FBI's most wanted alleged fraudsters is said to be back here in the Palmetto State after a global manhunt Herb Leon Kimble was wanted after he went on the run after pleading guilty in a billion dollar Medicare fraud scheme. Federal officials say, that scheme originated in South Carolina and that a federal court issued a warrant from him after Kimble failed to appear for sentencing.
Kimble pleaded guilty to a list of federal charges in 2019. He was not immediately sentenced because he reportedly agreed to cooperate and help in the prosecution of his co-conspirators. Court records say Kimble operated a call center in the Philippines that he used to bill Medicare for over 1.2 billion dollars.
Documents say Kimble fled to the Philippines and was taken into custody there recently. He is expected to be in federal court in Columbia, next week. A photo of Kimble provided by the FBI is below.
