A proposed hotel ordinance is causing consternation in one Upstate County. At their meeting Monday night, the Pickens County Council heard from residents voicing opposition to the ordinance.
Currently the county does not have an ordinance governing hotels and resorts. Those in opposition of the proposal say that some projects were approved in the past under the county's plans and feel the new rules could limit what property owners are allowed to build. Those in favor of the ordinance says it sets new standards to help manage growth around Lake Keowee.
Former 13th Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins spoke on behalf of a gated community called Old Edwards Reserve at Lake Keowee. Those who support the Old Edwards Reserve feel the project is being targeted using the guise of protecting natural resources.
