A section of McConnell Springs Road was closed to traffic after a natural gas service line was damaged. The closure affected the area between Harriett Circle and Reed Road as crews worked to secure the leak.
The Anderson Fire Department assisted Piedmont Natural Gas during the incident. Fire officials said no evacuations were necessary. By 11am Wednesday, fire officials reported that Piedmont Natural Gas had stopped the flow of gas from the damaged line and that no further hazards remained. The roadway has since reopened to traffic.
Crews continue to monitor air quality in the surrounding area.
