A Sheriff in the Western North Carolina mountains is setting the record straight in addressing rumors regarding his office. Macon County Sheriff Brent Holbrooks addressed rumors that six deputies from his office are under investigation.
He says, those rumors are untrue and that there are just two separate investigations involving his deputies. One deputy was being investigated after a complaint surfaced regarding a deputy's altercation with an intoxicated person. The NCSBI reviewed that matter and cleared the deputy of wrongdoing.
The 2nd investigation involved allegations of financial misconduct. The NCSBI investigated those claims for nearly 6 months and cleared the deputy in question. Holbrooks said he wanted to address the rumors before, but the investigations were still ongoing.
Holbrooks says, he wanted to speak on the rumors in an effort to be transparent and accountable. This comes after a Macon County deputy was fired last month after being named in a separate investigation by an outside agency.
