A Western North Carolina man will avoid prison time after being convicted on sex crime charges. Officials in Swain County say, William Timothy Phillips entered guilty pleas on two counts of sexual battery.

Court records show, that he was given credit for 48 days of time already served. He was originally sentenced to 75 days in the Swain County Jail.


The sentenced was suspended and Phillips was given two years of probation. He will be required to register as a sex offender for a period of 30 years.
