OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An investigation is underway after a fire in west suburban Oakbrook Terrace overnight.

Several units were visibly damaged in the building on Royce Boulevard off of Butterfield Road after it was struck by lightning.

Lillian Brown lives in the apartment building and told WBBM it was a frightening situation.

"The alarm was going off and this is 11:40 and I'm like 'Oh no. What's going on," she said. "I'm smelling smoke at this point too. I'm freaking out."

Brown said she and her mother had to spend the night in a hotel and will do so again tonight.

Residents said there were no reports of injuries.
