Boil order remains in effect in Dixmoor; Who's to blame for water issues?

Boiling Water

DIXMOOR, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A water boil order remains in effect in south suburban Dixmoor nearly two weeks after it began over low water pressure issues. Meanwhile, south suburban officials are arguing over who is to blame for Dixmoor’s water problems.

Dixmoor is supposed to get its water from neighboring Harvey, but, for the time being, is getting it from Blue Island, because of pipe issues leading to low or no water pressure. And because everything’s not back to normal, residents are asked to boil any water used for drinking.

Harvey officials continue to say it has told Dixmoor officials for years there were pipe problems, but that Dixmoor did nothing about that. But Dixmoor Village President Fitzgerald Roberts told CBS 2 this was all Harvey’s fault.

“...What me and the board of trustees have done during this crisis, I don’t think no one else would have moved as quick as we have,” Roberts said. “This issue was not brought to the previous administration, because this is an issue from someone turning the valve. I’ll stand on that.”

Bottled water remains available at the village hall for any Dixmoor resident who needs it. Seniors are encouraged to call the Village at 708-389-6121 and water will be delivered to them.

Dixmoor sits in southern Cook County, Illinois, approximately 18 miles south of downtown.
