The Chicago Board of Elections says it's dealing with a shortage of some election judges today.
Max Bever, a spokesman with the Chicago Board of Elections, said the pandemic and the summer date may be factors in low staff levels.
“There have been a lot of resignations over the past few days that have helped short staff some of our polling places,” Bever said.
Overall, though, the board has been able to navigate the shortage. Bever said voting is going about as expected, even with a late jump in early voting.
“Early voting really rose over the last three days,” Bever said. “We were seeing lower numbers and lower turnout at first, and higher turnout for our vote-by-mail turnout.”
Bever said that turnout will likely fall somewhere between 2018 and 2014 numbers. He added that onsite voter registration has helped to make the process much more convenient.
“Please just take two forms of ID with you," Bever said, "One with your current address on it. A voter registrar onsite will get you registered to vote or update your registration, and then you can vote on the spot.”
Polls are open until 7 p.m.
