CHICAGO (WBBM Newsradio) – A Chicago man has been charged with murder and attempted murder in a shooting aboard a CTA Pink Line train that left one man dead and another wounded last month in the Loop.

Pedro Villarreal, 34, faces multiple felony charges, including first-degree murder, attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm, according to Chicago police.

Investigators said the shooting happened around 1:20 a.m. on Dec. 23, 2025, while a CTA train was near the 100 block of North Wells Street. Police said Villarreal became involved in an argument with two men, ages 44 and 23. During the dispute, one of the men produced a gun, and Villarreal was able to take control of the weapon and fire it, striking both victims.

The 44-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County medical examiner identified him as Raymond Harrison Jr. The 23-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his wrist and was hospitalized in fair condition.

Villarreal was arrested Saturday in Cicero following a joint investigation by the Chicago Police Department and Cicero police. He is also charged with weapons violations and a CTA trespassing citation.

Villarreal is scheduled to appear in court Monday for a detention hearing.
