CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Cook County residents must pay first installment bills for 2022 property taxes by today or they will face late charges, County Treasurer Maria Pappas said.
According to state law, any late payments are charged 1.5% per month.
Typically due March 1, the deadline was extended because the second installment bills for 2021 taxes were late. Pappas reminds residents payments can be made online at cookcountytreasurer.com and can submit their payment as late as 11:59 p.m. Partial payments are accepted.
To make an online payment, follow these simple steps:
Select the blue box labeled “Pay Online for Free”
Search by property address or enter your Property Index Number
There will not be a fee if you pay from your bank account, Pappas says.
The treasurer’s office also says you can also pay your tax bill:
At any Chase Bank location
From a checking or savings account at more than 200 participating community banks
By mail with a U.S. postmark no later than April 3, 2023
At the Treasurer’s Office, 118 N. Clark St., Room 112, Chicago, Illinois 60602
