CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) has released bodycam video of a foot chase in Auburn Gresham this summer where a suspect fell and later died.
At issue is whether a Chicago police officer pushed David Curry, as a witness claimed, or if the 22-year-old stopped abruptly and the officer ran into him, knocking him to the ground. That’s what the officer said after the June 23 incident.
The video appears to show the officer sprinting after Curry down an alley and extending his arm before Curry falls and goes limp.

A bystander is heard in the video accusing the officer of pushing Curry.
In the police report, the officer said he was about to grab Curry and couldn’t stop his momentum. Curry is bleeding from the ear and believed to be having a seizure in the video.
He went to the hospital and died about two weeks later. The autopsy results are still pending.
COPA is investigating the officer’s use of force in response to the call at 81st and Hermitage. Police were dispatched to the area that June day for a report of a man with a gun who had hit a woman. They recovered a semiautomatic pistol with an extended magazine and a switch at the scene.
