(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The gates to Riot Fest have officially opened and as the three-day music festival gets underway at Douglass Park, and dissension about the event is front and center.

As festival goers make their way along California or 19th to the Roosevelt entrance, signs are posted that reflect opposition in the neighborhood. Among the messages are “No Megafests in Douglass Park!”

Robyn Siemer was just outside the gates. She said youth soccer players have been displaced by the punk rock event.

“They couldn’t take the disruption caused by the three megafests they’ve had in the park this year,” she said.

She was asking people to endorse pre-scripted postcards that will be sent to Riot Fest organizers.

Some attendees said they were unaware of the controversy over the concert fest and expressed regret.
