ELMHURST, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Elmhurst District 205 school board last night addressed last week’s bullying of a special needs student that was captured on cellphone video last week.

Elmhurst District 205 board president Kara Caforio said there is no room for the kind of bullying that happened in a York High School bathroom last week. She said significant school consequences were issued to the students involved.

"To our wider Elmhurst community….the outpouring of compassion in action from our student body at York high school has been nothing short of amazing."

But parent Elena Cutri told the board it shouldn’t give the impression last week’s incident was a one-time-thing.

"The York student body who immediately organized the petition and Friday’s event, they know better, " she said.

"They know there are scores of students who with disabilities who are bullied and there’s no clear repercussion against those who did it."
