(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A second man has been charged in the killing of a bank guard in Gary, Indiana — a crime that authorities say has ties to a semi-pro football team in Chicago.

Federal authorities identified Hailey Gist-Holden, 26, of Gary as the second suspect who allegedly robbed the First Midwest Bank on Ridge Road on June 11. During the crime, bank security guard Richard Castellana, 55, a retired Cook County sheriff’s deputy, was fatally shot.

Previously indicted for the crime was Anthony King Jr., 24, Florida.

The investigation led to Gist-Holden, who was arrested in Georgia early on June 18, following a police chase, authorities said.

Authorities say the two were connected through the Chicago based Illini Panthers semi-pro football team. Gist-Holden, who owned the team, was in desperate need of money to pay its bills, officials said.

“The murder of Richard Castellana was a senseless act of violence,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Tina Nommay, who is based in Hammond Ind. “Our hearts go out to Mr. Castellana’s family and those other victims terrorized by these criminal acts.”

The death penalty is an option in the case, authorities said.
