(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Scam artificial intelligence robocalls are a concern ahead of next month's general primary election in Illinois.
The company that allegedly used AI to create robocalls impersonating President Biden's voice during the New Hampshire primary election is being warned not to do that in Illinois and other states.
A Task Force’s investigation revealed that Life Corp allegedly spoofed calls to appear as if they were coming from legitimate New Hampshire political party officials. Callers then proceeded to provide incorrect information about elections and voting to the call recipients.
Attorney General Kwame Raoul has joined a bipartisan coalition of attorneys general from across the U.S. to warn Life Corporation, its owner and executives to cease any unlawful calls immediately.
Raoul also urged callers to be cautious of AI calls related to elections and to file complaints if they've been a victim of an AI robocalls.
“The right to participate in our nation’s democracy is one of the most fundamental rights we have as Americans. I will continue to work with fellow attorneys general to ensure that right is protected from misleading robocalls," he said in a statement.
Early voting begins in the collar counties February 8, in Chicago February 15, and in Cook County February 21.
