BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Thursday is the 10th anniversary of the disappearance of Indiana University student Lauren Spierer. Police said it still remains an active investigation.

It was June 3, 2011 when Lauren Spierer had been out drinking with friends and ended up at one of their apartments. At 4:30 a.m., she decided to walk home, but never made it.

The 4-foot-11, 95-pound 20-year-old sophomore was last seen walking at an intersection.

Despite the time that’s passed, Bloomington Police Chief Michael Diekhoff said police are still pursuing leads.

"Over the course of the last 10 years, the Bloomington Police Department has received thousands of tips, interviewed hundreds of people, obtained a number of court orders, and executed innumerable search warrants in Bloomington and elsewhere.

"Many times we are asked if Lauren's case is listed as a cold case. The answer to that is an unequivocal 'no'," he said.

Diekhoff said a cold case is one where no leads or information comes in, and that has never been the case with Lauren Spierer investigation.

"A cold is one where no leads or information has come in and the case file sits dormant. That has never been the case regarding Lauren, and there has always been something to follow up on," Chief Diekhoff said.

"In the last three to four years for example, investigators have executed at least 10 search warrants and have received approximately 800 tips. Of those tips, over 100 of them required additional follow up. Overall since 2011, BPD has received nearly 3,600 tips with approximately 1,100 of those descrip to be actionable and assigned to additional follow up."
