NAPERVILLE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --- U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-Ill.) announced victory in the race for Illinois' 14th Congressional District over Republican opponent Scott Gryder Tuesday night.
The incumbent Naperville congresswoman's announcement came with more than 53% of the vote.

She directly addressed Republican policies during her victory speech.
"Together, we must rise to the challenges of protecting our values and defending our Democracy," Underwood said. "If there's one thing I know about all of you here with me, we are not surrendering our country to these people."
Underwood is a registered nurse by profession. She has been in support of the Inflation Reduction Act dealing with prescription drugs and legislation to help a Native American tribe reclaim stolen land.
Kendall County Board President and Chairman Gryder was elected to the Kendall County Board three times. Gryder has said he is “pro-life,” but would not ban abortions in some cases. He has also said that mass shootings could be addressed as a mental health crisis.
