(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — McHenry County will be offering residents a chance to make good on money they owe without penalties this month.

The amnesty program is the first of its kind in the county. It will allow people to pay past-due court fines and unpaid traffic tickets without collection fees or interest.

The Circuit Clerk’s Office said the amnesty period will run from Sept. 12 – 16.

Anyone who has a balance due on a criminal, traffic, DUI, ordinance, or conservation violation will be able to pay the original amount, the clerk’s office said.

Circuit Clerk Kathy Keefe said they’re hoping the amnesty program “eases a little of the burden” individuals may be facing.

Payments can be made online or in-person at the clerk’s office in Woodstock.
