(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Bidding has started for a piece of Chicago sports and Olympics history.
Sotheby's is putting up for auction the jacket that Michael Jordan wore during the 1992 Olympics Gold Medal ceremony.
The '92 games marked the debut of the Dream Team, the first time that pros from the NBA played for the United States Olympic Basketball team.
Michael Jordan, fresh off of his second NBA title with the Bulls, would lead the group of stars to a Gold Medal.
The jacket could fetch up to $3 million.
"It's what somebody is willing to pay or what two people are willing to pay," Stephen Fishler, CEO of Comic Connect and Metropolis Comics in New York, told the Noon Business Hour on Thursday.
The jacket is an interesting piece of Jordan lore. It was a Reebok-branded jacket, and Jordan covered up the logo during the ceremony due to his long-standing relationship with Nike.
"You're dealing with what should have been a Nike moment, according to Nike, dealing with the brand of a different company," Fishler said.
An opening bid of $750,000 was posted on the Sotheby's page for the auction. Bidding ends June 28.
