(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Sentencing is scheduled Tuesday for the wife of a north suburban police officer who killed himself as investigators were closing in on his alleged financial misdeeds.
Fox Lake police officer Joe Gliniewicz tried to stage his suicide as a murder committed by non-existent suspects in 2015. His wife, Melodie, ended up being charged with being part of his alleged embezzlement scheme from a police Explorers program.
She was accused of stealing as much as $100,000 from the program. But, in February she pleaded guilty to deceptive practices and prosecutors dropped more serious charges. She could be sentenced anywhere from probation to three years in prison.
