ST. CHARLES, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- West suburban school district officials say they are standing by their decision to transfer two long-time high school teachers despite an emotional school board meeting last night.
Alice Fremling and Brian Callahan are two longtime English teachers at St. Charles North High School.
Superintendent Paul Gordon said the two high school teachers are among nine who were involuntarily transferred to other schools across the district in order to maintain a consistent ratio of teachers to students.
"This is a decision that we did not come to lightly and it was made only in accordance with existing processes used in previous years."
More than 20 people showed up at Wednesday night's district 303 board meeting. St. Charles North Junior Tyler Moore said it's unfair to students and teachers alike.
"It is ridiculous to think that this sudden change is acceptable- that she'll still be able to teach on the same level at a different school," he said referring to Fremling. "It's a completely different environment."
After hearing public comment, the board went into closed session and afterward it released a statement saying it will not reconsider involuntary transfers.
