(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago police say they've made arrests in two high-profile cases murder cases, including the stray-bullet shooting death of a 7-year-old boy killed while washing his hands in his Humboldt Park home.
Officers have arrested a 16-year-old boy in the Oct. 26 shooting outside a home near Potomac and Rockwell that fatally injured the boy, officials said Tuesday evening.
Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said two groups of people were in an alley outside the child’s residence when one group fired shots at the other.
“Obviously, the bullet misses that group. Nobody’s struck in that group, and the bullet goes through the window, striking the 7-year-old,” he said.
The juvenile suspect was expected to be charged with first-degree murder, police said. Charges are also expected against two adults in that case, Deenihan said.
Chicago Police Supt. David Brown also confirms that authorities in Alabama have arrested a suspect in the shooting death of a Greyhound employee outside the bus depot in the West Loop.
Brown said he hopes the arrests announced Tuesday send a clear message that “no one can hide from justice.”
