(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Family members and neighbors held a balloon release Wednesday afternoon in honor of the latest child killed by gun violence in Chicago.

Seven-year-old Jai'mani Rivera was shot in the chest outside of the Oakley Square Apartments in Chicago's Near West Side Tuesday afternoon.

Spiderman balloons filled the air outside the gated apartment complex. Family members and loved ones gathered to remember Jai'mani.

“We need justice for my nephew. He was a very outgoing kid, only seven, about to start football this season. He got his number he wanted, he got his jersey,” his aunt Vanessa Rivera said.

No arrests have been made in Jai'mani's death. A $15,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.

Mayor Brandon Johnson said his administration is trying to address the root causes of this kind of violence.

“As a city, we have to continue to surround one another, protect one another and do everything in our power to build a society in which a child can grow up and go outside without the fear of being murdered.”

CPD said it will be providing mental health resources to families in the area.
