ELMHURST (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A planned student walkout at York High School over a bullying incident last week apparently will not be happening today.

Elmhurst District 205’s spokesman said the student leadership team at York High School has decided that the best way to tackle the issue of bullying in the school is from the inside, not walking out. The planned walkout was over last week’s bullying incident of a student with a disability.

According to Patch, the student leaders were said to be deeply disappointed in their peers and frustrated. The student leaders reportedly want to show support for students with disabilities through events such as the Special Olympics. They also want to work towards direct solutions to promote belonging, equity and acceptance in the school and the district.
