AutoNSider Review | 2019 Genesis G70 3.3T "Design" Edition

2019 Genesis G70
Bob Jackson | Entercom Atlanta

How can you not love a vehicle that hugs you when you turn the dial to "Sport"?

Yes…just select "Sport" and you'll feel your Genesis gently inflating the side bolsters on your seat…hugging you closely and making sure you're well-anchored for a round of spirited driving.

Just gotta' love little touches like that, no?

And there's a lot more to love about the G70 3.3, too…so much, in fact, that Motor Trend Magazine named the '19 Genesis "Car of the Year".

That means that this rowdy "upstart" Genesis beat out BMW's, Mercedes, Audis, Lexus, Infinity and others.

G70s start in the mid $30's…and come with a 252 HP turbo four and an 8-speed auto.

The "Car of the Year" that we tested, tho', was their 365 HP twin turbo six.

We're talkin' 0-60 in around 4.5 seconds.  Floor the G70 and you'll be advised to have all four wheels pointed straight ahead.   The power feels more like 500 HP.

You'll be thrown back in your seat with a jolt…and a surprised look on your face.

An 8-speed auto will keep you in the proper gear, and a limited slip rear end, sport suspension and 19" performance rubber make the most of the G70's rear-wheel drive.

Again, great athletic feel and fun in the twisties.

And they didn't forget the interior, either.  Heated and ventilated quilted Nappa leather, a big sunroof, suede headliner, aluminum trim, heads-up display are all there for you to enjoy.

We found the EPA's 18 MPG City and 28 Hwy to be pretty accurate.  You CAN get close to 30 doing the speed limit on a freeway…but it's hard to behave in a vehicle like this.

And on that note, one other observation:  It's a shame that so many of us drive with the windows up year-'round, 'cause it's only when you lower the window that you really hear the G70's 3.3 growl.   And a throaty little growl it is!

All in our test Genesis G70 3.3 Design Edition stickered under 50K.  If you want all-wheel-drive it'll be another two thousand.

So with performance and style, what else might the G70 need?  I'd like to see another inch or two in rear seat legroom, but since I'll be doing the driving, it's really not an issue with me.

And as you measure the G70 against its competition, remember….the G70 has a 10-year, 100,000 limited powertrain warranty.  Just something to keep in mind every time you really "exercise" this machine.   Just sayin'…………Follow AutoNSider on Facebook for review videos and more!
