AutoNSider Review | 2019 Hyundai Elantra Sport

Think you already know all about Elantras?
Think again.
Yes…The Elantra Sport just might teach you something!
While most mere mortal Elantras have a non-turbo 2.0 four that pumps out 147 HP and gets 30 to 40 MPG, the Sport has a smaller 1.6 turbo four that’s good for 201 HP and still-decent mileage of 26 city and 33 Hwy.
All I can say is “What a difference a turbo makes!”
If you enjoy sneaking alongside supposedly more powerful vehicles and then leaving them in your rear view mirror when the light turns green, you might really enjoy the Elantra Sport.
0-60 comes up in a hair under 7 seconds. No…The Elantra Sport is still not the fastest sedan out there, but it’s a delightful “sleeper”. Put your foot into it and surprise yourself…and surprise a few others, too!
Another welcome surprise is the Elantra Sport’s under $25,000 window sticker.
And that includes a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic ( vs. most other Elantra’s continuously variable autos ), 18” alloys, sport suspension and brakes, LED lighting, heated leather, sunroof, dual USB ports, Apple and Android compatibility, and the expected front / side / rear collision / blind-spot and cross-traffic alerts.
Our test Elantra Sport had a little over $2,000 in extras like upgraded audio, and well-integrated Blue-Link connectivity…and still costs around $8,000 less than the average vehicle today.
With speed…handling…decent mileage…legitimate room for five…and Hyundai’s 10-year / 100,000 mile limited powertrain warranty, Hyundai’s Elantra Sport gives you a lot to like.
