Hyundai is hitting the sweet spot of the market just about as well as Tiger Woods used to hit the sweet spot of his driver…and their new KONA is proof.
Compact SUVs like the KONA are hot these days…for good reason.
Prices are usually under $30,000.
Mileage is usually above 30.
Room for 4 or 5 with the convenience of a “throw and go” rear hatch.
Perfectly-sized to easily toss around in traffic, but with road manors that won’t wear you out going across the country.
And now, styling, too.
Yes…almost everyone who saw Hyundai’s new KONA thought it looked great….and Hyundai’s sales figures back that all up. While only on the market for a couple of years, the KONA is already a solid sales success.
The KONA is one step above Hyundai’s recently-introduced Venue…which is now their entry-level vehicle. But the KONA is a big step up. As noted above, it’s a legitimate in-town / on the road vehicle…comfy for four and able to squeeze in up to five. And just as long as you don’t plan to tow anything larger than a small jet ski, or bike, the KONA should give you all the vehicle that you need. And AWD is available, too, if you prefer.
Pricing for the lowest-priced “SE” KONA starts at just over 20 thousand…and even the base model brings forward collision avoidance, lane-keeping, a 7” screen, and Android and Apple connectivity. You’ll have a non-turbo 147 HP 2.0 four cylinder good for an EPA rated 33 MPG Hwy.
Our top-of-the-line “Limited” gave us leather, sunroof, Infinity Premium Audio, an 8” screen, smart cruise, pedestrian detection, and a few extra trim touches…all for less than 30 thousand. And the 1.6 Turbo gave us a welcome 175 HP at a cost of only one MPG. We actually got 34 on the road.
First car…second car…only car…if you’re not trying to squeeze in the whole soccer team, Hyundai’s KONA might deserve a good look.
