These images of Black Father's in the community will bring great happiness despite our current times!
As we are protesting and screaming at the top of our lungs, "Black Lives Matter," with much passion and rage, its time we find some joy. With Father's Day approaching, it's appropriate to bring some light to acknowledge our Black Fathers who matter as well. Over time, there has been an untrue narrative regarding black fathers. The myth attempts to indicate that black fathers are not involved in the black community, but Black Fathers are the epitome of superheroes to Black children. Black fathers are here to uplift, empower, and instill a different kind of strength to our community. Since many try to knock down the black father figure, it's become imperative in the community to express the relationship and value of family during hard times, such as COVID-19 and the height of a racial divide.
Social media has been a great place where we can see and prove that narrative to be wrong. In a more positive hashtag like #BlackFathersMatter, Black men have found joy in showing the relationship they have with their children. We see many pictures and videos of Black fathers bathing, dressing, and having tea parties with their daughters. Or Black Fathers swimming, dancing to Tik Tok videos, and throwing the ball with their black sons. During this time, as we are in much turmoil within the black community, we must remind ourselves and others that our father figures are prominent in our black children's lives.
