“Didn’t matter if they were right or wrong, ‘I have to defend my guys,’” Kasten said of Cox’s mindset in regards to wanting to he protected Braves players. “I’ve had these conversations with other major league managers, managers who have said to me, ‘I don’t go out there because I’m not going to change anything and I’m making a fool of myself.

I’m just yelling out there for no reason, umpire’s not going to change his mind, so I don’t believe in going out there,’ and at the same time I said, tell me who you respect as a manager, and the number one guy is always Bobby Cox,” Kasten said as he shared that while many managers he has had previous conversations with in regards to getting into arguments with umpires prefer to not engage with them, Cox, who was famously remembered for his arguments and ejections, was who they admired.
