Gov. Kemp Says, "Stay Vigilant" As COVID-19 Numbers Trend Downward

Governor Brian Kemp says COVID-19 hospitalizations are trending down in Georgia.

While speaking to the press Tuesday, Kemp says Georgia health officials see COVID-19 numbers go down, and vaccination reports are going up. He added that it is still not the time for anyone to let their guard down and strongly encouraged Georgians to continue to follow the CDC's COVID-19 guidelines.

The Georgia Department of Public Health COVID-19 Daily Report showed a downward trend of 4,879 hospitalizations on Monday. The report also showed that the percent positive rate has dropped to 15.2%, which is the lowest point since the beginning of the year.

Kemp added, "We cannot take the improving numbers we're seeing for granted." The Governor also provided an update on COVID-19 Vaccinations across the state. Alongside Georgia Public Health commissioner Dr. Kathleen Toomey both shared that Georgia has given out over 250,000 doses.

With so many in the 1A population still waiting to have the vaccine administered, The Governor says that CVS and Walgreens have completed 99.5% of their allotment for nursing homes, which could soon free up 40,000 doses for others.

In Washington, President Biden pledged to get 100 million Americans vaccinated in his first 100 days. However, Governor Kemp shared that he has not heard from the Biden administration regarding if Georgia will receive additional supplies of the vaccination.
