AutoNsider : 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited

These Guys have Earned a Seat at the Big Boys' Table!

Yes…if you're lookin' for a roomy, reliable, economical 4-door sedan, there have traditionally been 4-5 established mainstream brands to choose from…and another handful of little guys, too.

But with America's shift to SUVs and CUV's, that number is starting to shrink.
So I'm simply saying that among the survivors, Hyundai's earned a seat at the table.  Their re-styled '24 Sonata can go toe-to-toe with any of 'em.
And Hyundai gives you plenty of versions to choose from.

Sonatas start in the high $20's…equipped with a 191 HP 2.5 liter four good for around 25 – 29 MPG. In fact, if you don't need leather and a sunroof, you'll find the SEL version well-equipped with 17" alloys, heated front seats, heated side mirrors, a hands-free trunk, Hyundai's proximity key and most of todays' alerts and warnings.

Now if it's "GO" that you're after, they've got a 290 HP "N-Line" with 19" alloys and a bit more trim. With a mid-$30's window-sticker, I think you'll find the Sonata N to be quite a pleasant surprise.

We tested the Hybrid version, however, and came away impressed. Performance with the 192HP combination of gas and juice was a little raspy when I misjudged oncoming speed / distance and pulled out in front of someone trying to set the land speed record on my neighborhood 4-lane, but otherwise, acceleration was smooth and more than adequate.
But economy is the real plus with the Hybrid. We got close to 50 MPG in-town and around mid-40's on today's usual 15-20 MPH-over-the-limit road trips.

As for room? Not an issue. We packed a folding kayak and paddleboard + paddles and cooler in the trunk with room left over.
If low-price, four doors and excellent economy are all high on your list, opt for the SEL Hybrid and drive out in a well-equipped vehicle in the very-low $30's.
We got the Limited version, tho', and our Sonata Hybrid Ltd. could have been mistaken for a luxury car. A sunroof, leather, heads-up display, remote parking, heated and ventilated seating and premium audio were all well-appreciated additions to Hyundai's already long list of standard features and industry leading warranty.

Again, it's a new day in the world of wheels and today, Hyundai not only has earned a seat at the table, but they're trying to own the room. Take a look and let me know if you think I'm on-target, OK?
